aiming with your feet

Postby PaganLinuxGeek » Sat Aug 08, 2009 9:59 pm

I read somewhere, at some point in the past, in some magazine that the best way to line up your approach, was using your feet. Take a stance with your feet perpendicular to the flight line your intended approach will take and about shoulder width apart. Imagine a line on the ground from one heel, through the other heel and following the flight line to the basket.

(heel)----(heel)---------------------------------------------------------------(basket)

naturally if you are throwing a hyzer the line would be arcing out away from the basket, and reversed for anhyzer.

I was talking to WhaQ at the Badlands Open about the tunnel fairways on back side of P-Lake DGC. He mentioned that he uses his elbow to line up. I shall have to try this...

anyone else care to share their technique?

It is not really using my elbow and it is not really for stand still approach shots. If I recall I think we were discussing the tunnel shots at Paterson Lake. For most of my control shots I imagine the flight path I want the disc to take then for my reach back I pull the disc straight back along that line, and as I pull forward to the snap the disc travels back along the same line. My point with the elbow is that at the farthest point back in my reach back (theoretically) my arm is pointing exactly 180 degrees opposite the direction I want to throw, so in a way I use the my arm to aim. I have had pretty good luck using this I can hit the gap most of the time and tunnel shots are not too bad using a leopard/wizard depending on the distance.

I have heard that for lower power shots it is a good idea to watch what you are aiming at through your whole throw. I can’t do this on a throw and not pull the disc off to the right unless it is a stand still shot.

I have trouble maintaining sight of the target unless I do a sidestep instead of a cross-step. then of course your timing is all goofy... Hmnnn I'll have to play around with your technique and try it out.
