Pre-Tourny Cleanup

Postby PaganLinuxGeek » Sat Aug 08, 2009 9:40 pm

As you are no doubt aware; we have the Two Rivers Open coming up next month. There is some cleanup work to be done prior to the event. Several fairways on the island 18 need some love and mowing. I will contact Dennis w/ County park board & Hogan w/ parks and rec to see about getting out there and getting it done. Naturally we will need volunteers. Mowing, debris removal, and let not forget about the crappy condition of teepad 3. That's gonna take some major work... Anyways I'll update when I have more concrete information.

Have you heard anything about the teepad of 3? If they arn't going to do anything about it I think with enugh people and a little mechanical advantage to help we could move it back in to place. I did some calculations and I think it weighs about 1500 lbs and only needs to be shifted over about 2 feet. If we can get it moved the tricky part may be getting the ground packed back in under the back end of it. Anyways I think we could do something if P&R is not going to help (I have given up counting on them for anything to do with this course).

On a side note it seems P&R has been very responsive to fixing tee signs at Klaus these days. Hole 10 was only lying on the ground for a day or two before they fixed it, and they put the sign for 4 back in, I didn't even know that sign was still arround. I guess it is appropriate that they spend alot more time on the course that gets used most.

Yeah I've made several calls to Dennis with County park board. All to no avail. Darrell was gonna call and put a bug in their ear. Hoping that gets a fire under their butts. If not I'll just start making regular office visits... Yeah I've been thinking about the teepad of 3. If we could get some of the sandbags and form a retaining wall the soil would remain. Come to think of it the sandbags could be used to build up the terrain filling in the gaps with earth.

Whats the plan for finishing the rest of the work on the course? I assume we need to get some work done, I have all of this weekend free to work on the course at the very least I think there is some mowing we need to do. Do we know what holes are going to be used, If the tee pad isn't fixed it would be preatty easy to skip holes 2 and 3.
I think we should do 1b, 4b, 5, 6b, 10, 11b, 12a, 13, 17a, 18a, 19a, 20, 21, 22b, 23a, 25a, 26, 27b. But thats just my opinion.

Re: Pre-Tourny Cleanup

I am planning to work out at rez a little friday afternoon, and after a brief nap saturday. Sunday if needed.

Mowing: a path down the 'fairway' of 2 needs to be cut after debris removal. Around pins of 1, 14, 15, 18, 27b. While 24 will not be played during the tourny, I would like to mow it down at least once so it is at least decent shape to play, and easier to mow next spring. Same with 23. Again those two are back-burner and can be delayed if necessary.

Debris removal: There is debris scattered about the fairway of 20 where dead trees are down. This should be dealt with as the approach on 20 is partially blocked. Again there is debris on fairway of 2.

Mowers: I will bring my push mower and use it. Dusty is going to try and get his father's DRTrimmer brush mower. If you have access to a mower we can use and are willing to bring it that would be appreciated. I might be able to use one of the trucks from work to haul. Will speak to my boss and see.

The rez course is beautiful and quite scenic when properly mowed and maintained. I would like to see it in top shape for the tourny, and upkeep will be easier in future.

Here's a status update on work done at rez...
Today (Saturday) we got 27 mowed out around the B position.
Fairway of 2 mowed down to the start of the rocks and trees.
Around pin of 1 is mowed out to putting range.
Around pin of 26 is mowed out to about putting range.

One of the trees in the fairway of 20 is moved out of the approach area. The remaining 3 trees are easily played around.
The debris on 2 has been moved.

I would like to extend a big thanks to WhaQ-P for helping with the tree on 20, and the mowing of 27.
Also thanks to RiverBoy for removing debris and weedeating on hole 2.

Work to be done at rez...
Mow fairways of 23 and 24.
Mow hill on 18.
Mark O/B areas on 12, 14-15.

I wanted to have the next tee signs done by now but I've been lazy. Perhaps I'll get them done Monday...

We have all but the B positions on 23 and 24 mowed now. Big props to Ben for showing up with two mowers this morning. Mine bit the bullet and is taking a dirt nap. :( RIP it served me well. The remaining projects are the ob stakes, and I would like to get the "Next Tee" signs done but they aren't really needed prior to tourny. I'm sure each card will have at least one local player or a player familiar with the course to guide visitors through...
Thanks WhaQ-P, RB, Ben for your help out there. She's looking better and I'm appreciative as I'm sure visiting players will be as well.
